A diffuse Milky Way cuts the night sky in half above the barren landscape of Goblin Valley State Park in Utah. Partly hidden behind a river of gas and dust is the brightly burning core of our home galaxy, just visible near the horizon in this image.


Killer Whale vs. Great White Shark (Video)

killer-whale-breach A group of unsuspecting whale watchers near Southeast Farallon Island, about 27 miles off the coast of San Francisco, witnessed something extraordinary while observing a pod of Orca or killer whales. The pod was fresh off of a hunt that resulted in a sea lion kill. It was shortly after that the whale watchers noticed something large swimming near their boat. One of the guides on the boat quickly recognized the shape and identified it as a great white shark. Most likely attracted by the blood, the shark started moving toward the pod of killer whales. That’s when the whale watchers noticed that one of the killer whales broke from the pod to confront the threat.

National Geographic Channel made a show about this event and put together the live video that was taken that day. Read on to check it out…
