Found this today on the web. The picture is of a bald eagle known as No. 512 being released back into the wild after her second stint in rehab. She has had a rough time in the last few of her 19 years.
Her first experience with rehab came after a gunshot wound through the leg. No. 512 was in rehab for almost 2 years before she was released in 1998. This latest experience was the result of defending her nest from a younger female eagle. The younger female got the best of No. 512 and managed to oust her from her nest, but not before holding her down, plucking her chest feathers and leaving some deep wounds courtesy of her sharp talons. The home-wrecker now has chicks with No. 512′s ex-mate.
